Abu Dhabi Media Summit - Day 2: A Day of Discussion about Digital

Abu Dhabi Media Summit, 10 March 2010:
The second day of the Abu Dhabi Media Summit started with a discussion on the opportunities presented by new hardware and soaring bandwidth, introduced by Tony Orsten, CEO, Twofour54. Dirk Meyer, President & CEO of AMD, Dr. Suk-Chae Lee, CEO of KT Corporation and Jonney Shih, Chairman, ASUS, participated in the discussion, which was moderated by Jon Fortt, a Senior Writer from Fortune Magazine.
Themes which emerged from the session included how the MENA region represents the world's fastest growing media market, driven by chances in digital technology, and how the market for devices will be driven by people over the world wanting real-time information in whatever location they choose. New larger screen technology, such as i-pads, 6th sense technology and triple play (voice, video, data) servers were also discussed, as well as the increasing popularity of Internet Protocol Television, which is also reshaping the traditional TV advertising model.
The second session, entitled Moblising saw HE Mohammed Omran, Chairman of Etisalat, and Hans Vestberg, President & CEO, Ericsson debate the need for greater collaboration between content producers, technology and network businesses. The session was moderated by Karim Sabbagh, Vice President, Communications, Media & Technology at Booz & Company. According to Vestberg, there are three challenges to the technology, media and telecommunications industry: the standardisation of technology to drive down prices, how to create fairly priced content models and how to create a user experience which is equal for everyone regardless of device or location. HE Mohammed Omran acknowledged the need for more content to be produced from the MENA region and highlighted that advances in bandwidth will lead to a revolution in experience for customers across the Middle East.
Other morning sessions included discussion panels on TV Out of the Box and Next New Media , which looked at advances in digital media.
In the afternoon, Eric Schmidt, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Google, made a keynote address to the Summit's delegates, which number 400.
